Today, the Police have very dandily proclaimed to the world that they are prosecuting the blogger and have even gone ahead to remand the Doctor who allegedly helped the blogger procure fake documents
The intolerance is scary and almost abusive
What is leadership, I ask, if not patience? Leaders who do not see themselves as servant leaders react in this manner and throw all into a needless fight
What kind of fight is this? What would His Excellency gain in this fight?
Would it restore any perceived lost glory? Would it rewrite the history of a tenure that the people are asking themselves, just what have they gone through?
Yes, so the blogger abused his mother, alleged all sorts of profanity and truly deserves being thrown the book at
But what is statesmanship if not to rise above and actually look at the issues that triggered her tirade
Even the Military Dictator, IBB, used to send for his critics to better understand them.
He even gave them jobs to show them that it is not easy to lead, and some of them, like Tai Solarin, saw shege and kept mute after that
This fight will score His Excellency no brownie points, as people are notoriously fickle
By the time the beautiful blogger is seen in handcuffs or starts to cry on social media, the people will start asking – What did she really do?
Is His Excellency’s mother scandalised? I think not. Would she support this? I think not. So, in whose glory is he fighting for
I once slapped a lady who called my mother a prostitute, and my mother warned me in no uncertain terms- never hit a woman and never fight for me. Is it you she called a prostitute?
A loose tongue will make no dent to a principled and responsive leader. Even your god President Tinubu has been called many more names and has never reacted in this manner
Instead, he says – ohh I have stopped reading Social Media so I don’t get BP
So why take a sledgehammer after a beautiful fly on a matter which you could have just silenced her the way IBB silenced Tai Solarin by putting him in front of cameras and asking him to show Nigerians where he got the story of the Swiss factories
Our leaders never grab golden opportunities, but instead pursue knee-jerk reactions like this that further burnish the image
My prayer to His Excellency is that he please rise above, pull the case back, and address this matter more strategically.
Go for her credibility, prove her wrong and then watch her slide into relative obscurity
IBB did it, and he wasn’t even democratically elected.
His Excellency can never win this battle; the odds are too much against him
