This is a very deep story I’m about to tell.
Mena was with me for over 22 years bf she passed and during that time, I had Annette with Sara
Mena had Alvin but never accepted Annette. She would be saying – over my dead body, for my son Alvin to relate with Annette, Sara’s Daughter
She did everything within her powers to ensure Alvin had no relationship whatsoever with Annette
Then she passed, and Alvin turned to Annette for initial support. Truly the relationship had emerged ‘over her dead body’
Then Sara’s younger brother, Junior, got married and had a son, Gideon.
Gideon is about 3 years old, extremely good-looking with dreads on his head.
Gideon being Junior, Saras brother’s son is now a first cousin of my daughter Annette Sara’s daughter who is a stepsister to Alvin, Mema’s only son for me.
Now what this means is that Alvin and Gideon are cousins and share diluted blood through their bloodline with Annette, Sara’s Daughter
Then Gideon starts staring at Alvins’ pictures and points at him.
In his tiny voice and baby speak, he would say Alvin, Alvin Alvin
He had started asking after Alvin even before he met him
Alvin is 18 years old, tall and supremely handsome with locks on his head too
Yesterday, Alvin came for the plays with Sara, Nonso, Sara’s younger brother and Sara’s mummy with Aunty Bunmi, Sara’s best friend in tow
I noticed something – Gideon who is Junior’s son making him Saras’s nephew, clings to Alvin who is Annette’s stepbrother and son of Mena
I watch as Gideon does not allow anybody else to carry him except Alvin, whom I don’t think had met him before yesterday
Throughout the Play, they stuck together like glue and even when I tried to splice them apart, Gideon screamed and Alvin asked me to leave him alone.
I watched them walk the length and breadth of the Muson wondering what had brought these two together
One is 18 years old, and the other is three. The age does not look like an issue as they bond and stick together
I stood from afar and cried. You know I cry very easily.
This was true love not complicated by the negativity that comes as the negative effect of a philanderer
These two didn’t care who their mothers were or the seeming complexity of their birth but remained entranced by the pure love that they feel for each other.
After the show, I watched Alvin carry Gideon on his shoulder as they walked towards Saras car and I shook my head, still in tears and whimpering within my breath – truly, blood is thicker than water
Thanks
