The Ekiti theatre festival is already looking too good
At over a N100m, it is shaping out to be very exciting.
24 plays, two masterclasses, tour to inspect the historic plane crash site now turned into a tourist site
Ekiti has been nothing but a revelation.
As I seat on the balcony of the restaurant in the serene Ikogosi Warm Springs staring at the amphitheatre that will host 4 of the Plays, Ibadan comes to my mind
I want to put another N100m in Ibadan.
Go back to the old Theater Inside UI where i first saw a structured Theatre play and deliver five days of huge fantastic productions
Yemi Shodimu will be the Festival director and Tolu Fagbure will be the Artistic director but all directors would most likely be female as next year, Im a feminist.
Ibadan holds so many memories for me.
I attended the great University of Ibadan where i stayed in the huge Independence Hall depicted in my play Our Duke has Gone mad Again
UI theatre Arts is a very strategic and important point in Africa’s Arts and Culture scene producing such greats like Soyinka, Sowande, Osofisan and the rest.
The Ibadan Festival will be a first of its kind as it would drive Narratives aimed at rejuvenating the culture back to Ibadan
Let’s see how this pans out.
Work has started.
