I think Dr Rueben Abati just tried to bully this young man who recently lost his wife under very harrowing circumstances
On his much-watched program, he was seen to be saying that the young man wasn’t financially ready for the situation he found himself
Sitting on a massive platform like the Arisetv morning show with its huge reach and influence and attempting to blame the ‘littlest’ factor in this sordid drama is belittling the expansive power of the platform
At Dt Abatis’ weight and influence, this was one more opportunity to drive nails at a system that has failed even the richest of us all
A healthcare system that has lost 16, 000 doctors in five years, a system that has economically disenfranchised thousands of youths including Captain Blaize, a system that has not provided any welfarist buffer despite huge resources thrown into white elephant projects cannot be ignored while pouring blame on a suffering citizen that has been economically orphaned
I spoke to Captain Blaize immediately after I saw the video and he was still in tears
Losing a spouse or anybody for that matter is not a ‘small’ thing talkless of losing the person under these circumstances
Thankfully the Lagos State Government is carrying out investigations as I believe that this particular case should trigger reforms in the system
Let me state here very firmly that our maternal mortality rate is one of the highest in the world and that this case is just one of hundreds happening daily Nationwide
I would plead with my influential learned senior colleague to climb back from that horse and climb another horse that would see him use his effective influence in instituting change in this area
Meanwhile, let me announce that I would soon be paying Captain Blaize a visit.
It has been agreed that I come to spend some time with him and his two daughters
I will be taking some goodies with me, and anybody who is interested in the trip or who wants to support me can reach me.
May Nigeria not happen to us o
Thanks
Duke of Shomolu
