That is motormouth blogger and self-acclaimed activist Detoun jumping on His Excellency Dapo Abiodun to regain lost relevance
Following the imbroglio that followed the demise of musician Mohbad, Detoun lost so much credibility and relevance following her weird engagement on the matter
So when World Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua unfortunately ran into a truck on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, losing two of his closest friends, Detoun seized the opportunity to piggyback on the incident to regain relevance with Dapo Abiodun, the much-harried Governor of Ogun state, as her mop
But first, let me make an observation. In Detouns rant, she kept shouting his first name – Dapo, Dapo, Dapo the way Doris Ogala has been calling Chris Okafor, who misused her and went to marry someone else
Why female acquaintances of Dapo Abiodun feel so free to call him Dapo in public is a source of concern for me
The other day at Dr Abati’s birthday party, I witnessed a female journalist call him Dapo, and he sheepishly went to her with a smile
I am sure it is this lack of self-respect that is fueling this personal assault from Detoun on this matter.
Back to the bone of contention.
Detoun has come out to make some very weighty accusations against the Ogun State Government and its Governor
In her usual cranky and loud manner, she has said that the Governor was out there partying when things were happening and ended the volley of accusations with the massive claim that there is no Ambulance in Ogun State
In response, the Ogun State Government, in its usual rakety manner, issued a statement going personally at Detoun
They called her a liar and almost a vagabond, but ended up trying to debunk the assertion that there is no single ambulance in Ogun State
They should have just ignored her, as their statement, as usual, went off the mark.
The Ogun state communications team is the worst in the country, and this could be why ‘Dapo’ suffers regular beatings in the media
Once I had written something very critical about ‘Dapo’, his team called me an Amala journalist without even engaging with the issue I had raised.
They took out space in a National daily to call me out by calling me a beer parlour and Amala Journalists
They met their match in rubber mouth Adetoun, who, in response to their very pedestrian statement, took ‘Dapo’ to the cleaners
Showing a slew of ambulances that nobody in Ogun State seems to have seen on a stretch that has killed about 73people in recent months was their own way of a push back?
So, why show us a long line of parked ambulances that can and may never be deployed, and expect us to keep them Mum?
Then you attempt to leverage the incident to tell us that you facilitated President Tinubu speaking to Joshua from his hospital bed, as if that’s a considerable achievement. To add insult to the injury, you now thank President Tinubu for his support and… Finally, you cannot help but remind us that you have a fatherly relationship with Joshua
Detoun in response abused the living daylight out of you and deservedly so
She reminded you that in over 100 cases that she has handled in Ogun, she has not seen one ambulance, and that it is ‘Jide’ in Lagos who used to send an ambulance to Ogun to help her evacuate
She also reminded you of one incident where you sent Keke Marwa to evacuate someone
She rained abuses and curses on you and dared you to come at her
Detoun is lethargic and unhinged. She rants without thinking and rabbles on, dropping names and pushing her pedigree and closeness to the APC power structure
This in itself should make a serious-minded government side-step her and not engage her headlong cos truth, she really has no weight to affect anything, either at the polls or policy
But does ‘Dapo’ know that? His incompetence and apparent naivety leads him to attempt a defence.
How do you defend impregnating your housemaid to your irate wife?
You cannot throw logic at emotions, and that is what the Ogun State Government tried to do with this matter, and Detoun will have none of that
In frustration, Dapo has been alleged, according to Adetoun, to threaten to arrest her cos she ‘abused his mother’
You see how low Dapo has fallen. In all of these, it’s the pain of the abuse of his mother that rankles him the most
If this is true, then he truly deserves the ‘eleyi’ moniker President Tinubu called him
Only an Eleyi would throw his mother into this kind of hot flame, exposing the poor woman to abuse and curses
Abi, the over 73people that have died on that road with no ambulance in sight don’t have mothers?
Mbok Dapo’s problem is dual: lack of actual performance and lack of a professional communications strategy and manpower
He has surrounded himself with failed freelance journalists who are making a very poor story even worse.
Common Adetoun is taking them to the cleaners
They should come and borrow a leaf from ‘Jide’ and see how his Communications team is handling him
See the maturity they showed throughout the Aisha wahala, the Obasa wahala and the many controversies that have dogged his second term.
They rise above the fray, address issues, circumvent the ones they can and push a narrative of continuous work despite the obvious distractions
Jide’s team understand media crisis management and has deployed these skills to keep his image intact despite him.
Dapo and his team have a lot to learn from this kind of childish approach to little things, like Adetoun and her market woman tirades cos from what I have seen, Adetoun has really beaten the ‘pata’ of ‘Dapo’ s yansh.
