Aristotle’s concept of tragedy is outlined in his “Poetics”. He described it as an imitation of a serious action, evoking pity and fear in the audience, leading to catharsis (emotional purging).
Key elements of this concept include:
- Hamartia (tragic flaw)
- Peripeteia (reversal of fortune)
- Anagnorisis (recognition or discovery)
The play Dora may not totally fit into this concept because I can’t remember any tragic flaw that led to her death. Just pointing out the aspect of purgation of emotion as displayed by Dr. Ogundeji. She was moved by something and that thing is a very strong point in that play. Break a leg ma’am and well done.
