I had just landed at the old terminal of the local wing of the Muritala Mohammed Airport when someone tapped me

I looked back and screamed. It was His Excellency very unrecognisable, simple and in his humblest best

He was in simple attire and had a rock sack strung on his back with a face cap

Your Excellency, I greeted you and we shook hands. He was in a hurry and said- Duke we will talk.

This was the second time, he was taking me aback with his simplicity and humble demeanour

The first was my Play – Emir Sanusi. He walked up to me and said – Where is my seat?

I looked up and didn’t recognise him and he showed me our chats and I screamed again

AA, as he is being called by his closest, sprang a revolution in Kwara, ending very decisively a dynastic rule that had only succeeded in installing a fief-like structure over the very proud people of the state.

He not only emerged as Governor but went ahead to install a very frugal and powerful, incisive administration that has impacted almost all sectors of the State.

Last year, he invited me to the state to see some of the transformational projects

I saw the giant Sugar Factory, the massive animation studio the huge International Conference Centre and complex, renovation work going on at the iconic Kwara Hotel and the massive garment factory

His works have started pulling in the desired attention with increased daily flights and international investor attention.

In a midnight discussion with His Excellency, he talked about his plans of giving Abuja a run for its money as the hub for conferences, IT and other such allied services.

His hard work is aimed at slowly turning Kwara and its capital the historic Ilorin from a mere civil service hub but into a vibrant and robust economic centre

Furthermore, as Chairman of the Governors Forum his work is both very crucial and important but comes with a balancing skill that only a matured and deeply engaged statesman can handle

As Chairman and member of the ruling party, his body also has members of opposing parties and as such he must maintain cohesion in a group that plays a very vital role in ensuring National Cohesion.

This i think he has done creditably well as we are witnessing a lull in instability in the grouping seeng it expand into other areas like advocacy.

As his second term gradually comes to a close, we are waiting with bated breath for his next move

I really do hope that he would seize the opportunity to serve nationally cos very seriously his type is not plentiful

No need to beat His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq – A sure-footed quiet rebel
