Mbok, I am just coming from Kola Adeshina’s mother’s wake and shame is catching me o
The way this egbon is burying is lovely mother, I am sure my mother will come to me this night to knock me
If you know Kola’s story, you will understand why he stopped at nothing to send her off with such class
This evening, the beautiful people came out in all white to support him
The Harbour Point venue was exquisitely furnished, the beautiful fineries making the whole place look like one Event Centre in heaven
The entertainment was first class one choir came to sing and one boy abi na man-he is yellow like this, big and big head was now singing with a woman’s voice
The boy’s voice scattered my head. His choir is the best I have seen since I stopped going to church.
Then one Pastor Okoh gave the shortest preaching I have seen and I loved him for that
Then my brother Timi Dakolo came to serenade us with Luther Vandross classic Dance with my father which he turned to Dance with my mother
Top people exoectedly were in the Hall from The Duke of Shomolu to Deji Adeleke of Davidos fame, Ministers of The federal Republic, Dere Otubu, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, Dapo Adelegan and so many others
Former Chairman of Access Bank and one of Nigerias most successful Lawyers and Ekiti Man Gbenga Oyebode was behind me and I said yes I don catch this man
But till he left, i didnt know o and the thing pain me
I see Ade and Tosin Adefeko, Dipo and Folake Soetan, Tapa SA to Minister of Trade and Investments, Ugodre and a lot of people who I didnt knw but who recognised me.
Kola’s speech was humorous and touching and he mocked us for expecting him to cry which he did not
Mbok am I to say that the Night of Tribute was fun? Wont it be one kind if I said that?
But my people lets just say it was differnt. A true celebration of life and I am sure Mama would be up there smiling down on her children as they make her proud
The only similarity between Kolas mothers tribute and my mama own is that they sang the song – It is well at both events
Just that our own na Ibibio people sing am comlete with our accent while his own na Naija people looking like Americans sing am with that accent.
Anyways. It’s not about the song but the fact that we all must born better pikin like Kola so that our own Nite of Tribute would look like the Met Gala
My egbon I don’t even know what to say again, whether na congrats or accept my condolence cos wetin I see this night na congrats commot for my mouth when I went to hug him and collect my package
Well done Bro, Mama will be proud
