This night at around 3am I had an interaction with Dr Erojikwe
He is the one writing and directing Bianca and he had just sent me a fresh synopsis
Bianca Ojukwu had outlined how she wanted the story to be told which aligned with what I want to do with this play
My Bianca is a story of conviction. It is a love story that shows very clearly the power of conviction
Conviction is lost in our national life. People no longer move with conviction but according to whims and selfish motives
Bianca chose and stayed with conviction. She didn’t care what people thought or what society dictated
She followed her mind. Sitting with her that night in her office, I still saw her stubbornness shine thru
She elegantly told me NO to taking pictures with her. Told me NO so many times that I even began to wonder why she gave me the appointment in the first place
She wanted it done well. Wanted her story told in a way that would bring out her progression from a young beauty Queen to the icon that she is today
From her beautiful face, you could see very clearly that she would not shift ground except if it aligned with her values
It is this concept of moving with conviction and a strong resolve that this story wants to throw up
Conviction allows for reliability, loyalty, endurance and stability both in life and in polity.
Today, you see politicians cross-capetting anyhow; you see presidential candidates abandoning their parties to collect appointments in another party all because we move with no conviction.
Bianca will use romance, beautiful songs and emotional dialogue to tell this enduring story with the hope that the magic of it all will not make us lose the lesson of conviction embedded in it
Bianca is written and directed by Dr Ikechukwu Erojikwe, who wrote Zik and will play the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre this May.
Superstar Timi Dakolo may make a cameo appearance
