I hear they have assembled in Abuja on a talking binge
Nigeria is a country of talkers. We talk too much and do little else
From TV talking heads who go to conferences, symposia, breakfast meetings – too many labels for a general national waste of time
If I attend all the talkfests that I have been invited to, I will spend almost all of my waking hours doing just that
The NESG is the most significant waste of time. They assemble every year, big men and talk about the economy and leadership, have photo ops and drink tea, mix and probably do some naughty things with themselves and go home till the next year
We really don’t see the nexus between all the talk and policy.
The gap between talk and policy remains as wide as you can imagine
The only good thing about all the talk is that it impacts hospitality, cos of the hotels they use, food and beverages, aviation, stationery, media and the rest, which now in turn employs thousands, and for that reason, we will bend over backwards to accommodate the roaring carnivals
The lawyers are also tremendous on this national waste of time.
Their own is a cacophony of errors. Every year, they gather in one city and amuse us
One year, Portable is climbing a ladder, the other year, they are unveiling Dino Malaye, and in the midst of that, they are struggling for corporate gifts and stealing phones while the Judiciary is slipping very fast downhill
Daily, there are thousands of talkfests going on with all sorts of skin heads postulating all sorts of things with no real pragmatic effect on Governance or society
It’s incredible how we do these, and by the time u add churches and mosques into the noise, you get a babel of voices
It is this talk that is leading to all the confusion in the country
Everybody is confused cos there are opinions here and there leading nowhere
Dangote refinery is good, no Dangote refinery is a monopoly, no Dangote refinery has killed subsidy, Dangote refinery will destroy the economy, all of these positions and more at various fora, all in one day from various ‘experts’
This is why wise people no longer just listen to advice; they take action.
If Aliko had listened to all this talk, there would be no refinery today.
The one that amnoys me the most is the annual pilgrimage to New York for UNGA
Every mumu with a feeling of self-importance will be flying there for photo ops
You will see all sorts – government officials, musicians, businessmen, slay queens, and suspended Senators, all just milling around the corridors for a photo op or to be allowed to enter the room and maybe serve tea, because I don’t ever see them speak.
The waste of time that is the NESG is pitiable, as we are yet to see any of their conclusions seep into public policy. However, they still don’t miss the opportunity to assemble every year, spill crap with an air of importance.
We need a country of doers and not talkers. We talk too much, and that is why nothing is really happening.
Talk, talk, talk everywhere and no action.
No be mumu be dt?
