Did you see the look on President Buharis face when the paystack dude walked up to him in lipstick, make up and fingers painted.
Buhari looked like he was about to have a seizure. He looked at the ‘effigy’ in shock and kept staring as that one walked away.
Three things i will say here is that – one, i admire the young lad for being himself at such a huge platform. He is a crossdresser and didnt change who he is for the simple reason of a National award and for no matter who was giving it to him
The second thing here is that those who organised that thing should have better briefed this lad and shd have politely told him that this was our national hallowed ground and such lifestyle was not acceptable esp within the context of a very conservative institution
Someone in that minsitry should be sacked. Dont get me wrong, much as i am one for freedom of expression and all that, I still believe very strongly that there should be some level of respect and regards for sacred institutions.
We all watched the funeral of Queen Elizabeth and in all of their madness everybody that got into the Windsor Chapel wore black and were decked out in the traditional attire of the Windsors.
So in the same vein our own traditions and institutions must also be totally respected. You should never dress like that no matter who you are or what you have achieved to go receive the national awards
The recommended attire is our Native garments or a suit. Definitely not what that person looking like a caricature from trafalger square.
Thridly, that video showed me the future of Nigeria parading the effect of an eroded ethos and the past for Nigeria with a staid and unbending President refusing to understand the dynamism of life
His look shows the confusion of present day Nigeria as the youth move very quickly into the speed of a transforming world order.
No handshake between the two, no bilateral understanding between the two, throwing up a veil of confusion and an underdevelopment of historic proportions.
That clip said a lot and i totally comprehend it in all of its ramifications.
That boy should not have been allowed into that hall. He should have been politely turned back and his Award sent to him by courier.
With that outlook and Teni’s unsmiling face, you can as well imagine just where the medals would find a resting place in their homes.
The National Award must not lose its significance it must always be awarded to those who understand its import and to those who will always carry themselves with the honour that labelling connotes
