I first met her as Roli in the then extremely popular soap opera – Mirror in the Sun, and since then, she has been all over, powering one of the most iconic careers in film, theatre and management.
She has been with the legendary Olu Jacobs since she was 19 and he was in his 40s, and there lies my wahala.
I have just done Bianca where we celebrated true love based on conviction
Joke and Olus’ love goes a step further – it is ethereal, beating all understanding and here lies my problem
I put in a call to the legend this afternoon and said – Ma mi, I want to do Olu and joke.
Since Bianca, my interest in deep love stories has piqued. The sincerity in true love, the sacrifices needed, the bond, the immaterialism of it all catches my attention in its totality
I once sat on a TV panel with Joke Silva and the influential Ruth Osime, who asked her – How is Uncle Olu these days?
She shone like a virgin seeing her first true love, her eyes glowed, and she broke into a wide smile as she talked about him
After all these years, she was still feeling ticklish at the mention of his name
Edgar, let me ask the children o – she says to me as for me it’s a no
That was her response as I told her of my plans and I said Mama, I will do the unauthorised version if you no gree
What else could be sweeter than this story of deep romance, love through the harshness of life and an immortality that bodes the feelings even in the twilight of their wholesomeness of their beings
Edgarrrrrrr, she screamed. Mami, I have everything ready – the songs that will serve as the lubricant as the audience devours the story, the venue, the cast and the director
My plan is provocative. I want Lagosians to run between Agip Recital Hall and The Glover Hall watching very evocative and powerful plays this December.
They will view the annoyingly tempestuous Tunde and Bola, which is a never-before depiction of two anti-heroes – Tunde Idiagbon and Bola Ige, who, although diametrically opposed, remain loosely tied together by Nigeria’s tragic response to their differential love for Nigeria.
It will be a two-story, two-director scene by scene interpretation of these lives all in one play.
Discussions are ongoing with Muyiwa the well-spoken son of Bola Ige and attempts are being made to reach Kunle Idiagbon to secure their support
So this December, if God permits, we will see audiences watch Olu and Jacob at Glover Hall and rush to Agip to witness the contrasting anxiety that is Tunde and Bola before wiping tears from their eyes as they witness the gory spectacle of Asaba, the tragic story that would be told by the great Prof Ahmed Yerima.
Everything is in my head, ive secured the sponsorship, I have the directors and will use the opportunity to unveil the six extremely brilliant female Directors that will showcase mad talent next year
Please anybody that know mummy should please tell her to agree o otherwise, she may have to use Ekiti police to pursue me cos I will do the story.
Prof Ojo Rasaki tells me that, I dont need permission from historical figure like Olu and Joke that all I have to do is to just send them letter for DHL and keep the acknowledgement copy
If she no agree, we go test that theory but what would be sweeter than to watch this emotional tear jerker with the wonderful couple and their kids in the hall and after the performance, she will climb the stage and tell us more about this stupendously wonderful story
Oya o, na prayer we all dey now.
Everybody raise hand towards my big sister Joke Silva and fire prayers of agreement towards her…
This December will be madddddd. Kai
