Truthfully speaking, we are tired of this particular Senate and the reason is very obvious, we didn’t vote for most of them
Someone is in prison today for the role he played on the election of their leaders, a lot of efcc issues, one is a massuer, some cant speak good English, one is only interested in who wants to sleep with her and others just use the place as a retirement home or somewhere they go to sleep and enjoy it’s warm comfort
This is not a Senate but a caricature of what a Senate should be
Infact in my estimation, there is only one Senator – Ali Ndume and may be Senator Opeyemi Bamidele who sometimes trisles to bring depth into proceedings
With these motley crew, its easy for funny things to happen
Tainted Federal appointees, bow and go, crooked Tax laws pass with all its confusing adjuncts, spurious and laugbale laws are attempted to be passed – like the one banning Porn
It is the unseriosnew of these lot that leads to mile high foot massages, a sexual scandal that distracted a whole nation and all sorts that has nothing to do with what a Senate shd look like
Self interest and a collective need to ‘hide’ as contributed very effectively to the numbing of the place and nothing best describes this than the just concluded ‘fight’ on electronic transmission of results in real time
The Senate in its full glory and just waking up from another drunken stupor announces to the people that they do not have confidence in the digitization that is transforming tge country
Who in this country exxept a drunk will say that with over 60% penetration of the Internet and mobile telephony.
A country where voter apathy has driven down the numbers of qualified voters to less than 5% of those who own mobile phones
How many people voted for all the Senators and compare that number with the subscriber base of the smallest telco in the country
Daily trillions are being trabsfered on the back of the same backbone with no too much down time and with adequate electronic cloud back up.
Aviation, manufacturing, education and almost all of our conectivities are driven now almost 100% digitally and the Senate is now saying that results cant fly just once digitally when Flutterwave is transacting billions by the second daily
This is nothing but self centred drunken talk and this is why confidence on the whole system is down when Bosun Tijani the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy remains silent on this kind of assault on the people
JAMB and WAEC conduct exams on CBT which is electronically driven and successfully handle more candidates than those who voted for the Senate President and his cabal very seamlessly and efficiently
The other day, when they had a glitch, it was resolved immediately so the Senate has nothing but their shadows to be afraid of
Thankfully and as a result of public pressure as evidenced by the protest around the National Assembly, they reversed thenselves and said – ohhh you can transmit but there must be Manual Back up in the event of a force majuere
They know what they are afraid of and know what they are fighting and honesty Nigerians also know and that is why we must no longer leave the very important role of Check on Executive reascality to these Senate again cos they have no capacity or willingness to do the job
This issue and concomitant protest has shown that if well mobilised, the people can save guard this democracy, cos this Senate, na Gym Instructors and Masuers fill the place
