Experts have said one in three Nigerians above 40 years of age will have blood pressure problems and it is true

Almost 2 out of 3 in my circle have it. My parents had it, my inlaws had it and so many people not too close to me have it

My guest at the Podcast today says he has been on d drugs for over 20 years, and the young boy sitting across from him has also been struggling with it for 10 years.

Well, I have moved from pre-BP to BP and back and my doctor done tire for me

He first started with – Edgar, Lifestyle changes can reverse and then to Edgar, I have to put you on drugs

One very dangerous thing abt the ailness is that it can throw you into denial since there are no symptoms and by the time the symptoms show, its almost too late

That was what happened to my late wife, who was as healthy as a mule, and by the time the headaches started and dizziness hit, we lost her.

So for me, faced with an illness that has wreaked havoc in my life – my parents, my wife and my Inlaws, I devise a strategy

My mother once told me, to try to push back taking drugs till you are about 60 except if it is absolutely necessary

Soto do this, I do the work.

At 56, I keep my weight in pure control. I try not to cross the 80kg mark

This is very important as my doctor tells me that the waistline is a major causative factor

So what is this my strategy? Wait before I tell you, let me give u my reading

My relationship with my BP machine is funny. My anxiety makes sure, I don’t get accurate readings cos immediately I put the thing in my hand it starts pumping, my heart rises my chest tightens and my pulse will hot ensuring that I don’t get a good reading

Then I relax and try again, and it comes down drastically, ensuring that the reading is tied to my fear.

So last night, I came back home from a party and decided to check.

The thing hit 145/99 as my heart pounded and i waited for 5 minutes and checked again and it dropped drastically to 130/90 and I screamed and waited again and it dropped further to 128/86 and I quickly removed it and threw the machine away bf the thing will change its mind and throw up another figure

I was so happy that I slept like a baby. That at my age with all my stress esp with this one that Ekiti people are not answering me, I cd be reading these low figures without drugs, that means my strategy with Gods love are a combined winner

So what is my strategy – simple

I dont check the fucking machine.

That thing gives me the crips. Once I see it, I go into panic mode and my readings will hit the roof

So first things first, I dont check abeg, make I no come die before my time

I go into a simple routine.

One hour power walk every day of my life

Healthy eating filled with veggies and a lot of greek yougurts – we still dey do sweetened as we never graduate to unsweetened

Special diet as prepared by one woman in Surulere, who despatches and sends to me three times a week.

Wellmade soups with little or no salts and with fish snails, periwinkles and no meat.

Swallow is plantain Flour and pounded yam once in a while

No eating after 7pm even though I cheat on this once in a while with midnight raids to the fridge for that half glass of Milo and a slice of bread

Three litres of water daily very compulsory. I even have a flask that keeps water cool with me all day

Freshly squeezed orange juice that I get from Fresh County in Lekki

Fresh fruits like watermelon, Bananas, grapes etc.

My case never bad like that cos na Cucumber and all that bitter fruit such people dey take

8 hours sleep every day. This no easy as i do averagely 6 hours but make up with power naps in traffic and on my couch in the office

Masturbation as I dey do celibacy is very frequent as this frees my mind, lightens me, reduces risk of prostate issues and generally keeps me alert.

Then very key is my friska tea regime.

Friska tea is sonething i have been drinking for years and as brand ambassador, I get free supplies regularly

I take the BP tea every night, no matter where I am in this world and it keeps my readings sound

So that is my simple regiment as a 56 year old Nigerian running away from BP

Now a note of warning, if you are reading 200/100 consistently, all these will not work for you o

Just submit yourself to pure medical attention

These things are working for me, cos i started the regimen early when I was still pre – BP so all I do is to struggle and stay within the130/90 range for as long as i can bfore I surrender

And remember my blood sugar is less than 120 which makes life easier for me

So pls Dr Nwabuoku my specialist Harvard trained Dr will say – Edgar dont let them seize my license o, stop asking people to throw away their machine o, let people do the proper thing o

So guys, go see your doctors and allow them decipher a course for you, as for me, na here I stand

Thanks

Duke of Shomolu
