The young lady, based in Ikorodu, suddenly announced that she would sleep with 100 men within 24 hours in her bid to win a slot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
As expected, the hoopla the announcement raised was deafening.
One traditional ruler pushed for her arrest and after a moment of defiance, she recanted
In our emotional haste, we forgot or didn’t take into consideration some very key fundamentals in this matter
Her freedoms. Yes, her rights to self-actualisation, Choice, and speech, as enshrined in our constitution.
If we remove the moral baggage that the announcement has thrown on her, you will see very clearly that what she had proposed to do was within her rights as an adult.
It was her body and she has the right to do with it any how she wants to as long as its not in public, offensive and doesn’t cause others bodily pain or arm and wasbt paying or paying people.
Now suicide I hear is a criminal offence.
That you have no right to take your life and even that one sef, I also hear that the process of decriminalizing it sef is ongoing
So this case is far from suicide. Its a willingness to subject herself to the highest form of pleasure in her estimation with participants who will not be paid, cajoled or forced to partake
How this leads to a call for her arrest beats me and I wait to be better educated.
We trample on peoples rights all of the time while perching on the alter of sycophantic piety.
Dont get me wrong o. She is morally wrong and do not have my support in this act
I think she is of a loose moral grounding and if you factor in her barely literate status and a possible fractured upbringing, what you get is a youth deprived of societal structure and guidance leaving her with the morals of a mangy dog
But is she a criminal as far as this matter is concerned? NO
we must learn how to safe guard human rights cos approaching it with arbitrarines which is mostly the case can lead to the massive infringements of Rights which in turn would lead to persecution, loss of freedom and all that comes with a break down of law and order
Religion is a main culprit in this matter as our religious leaders and adherents usually dont knw where to draw the line between religious admonitions and rights
So she will be labelled a sinner and rightly so. Asked to be sent on deliverance if she is a Christian and if a muslim, those ones may even be harsher with her especially if they throw Sharia on her
But how does being a bad muslim or christiam make her a criminal is the big elephant in the room that her hypocritical opponents will either not have the sense to engage or just choose to remain blinded by their religious bigotry.
My argument in these treaties is that our Fundamental human rights of Choice, association, worship and the rest must continue to be safeguared for there lays the very foundation of a free society
They must not be demured by the charade of Pious morality, hypocritical religion and any other self serving jingoistic postulations
In this regard, the traditional ruler who called for her arrest must be better schooled in civics so he can go and sit down with his ignorance
Thankfully, she has called off her challenge and this I would habe been happier if she did so out or moral suasuon but not from the fear of arrest, cos someone had done it abroad, I think England and was hospitalised but not arrested
Its her body, its her rights and she must be protected cos next time it may be the removal of her Right to life and that will be really sad
Please its her Body, let her do what seemest good for herself mbok
Come and beat me
Duke of Shomolu
