I met him thru a referral. I was a hungry Stockbroker at BGL and a colleague gave me his details that he wanted to buy stocks
Went to the Panti Police station and there he was. Tall, with a funny kind of tummy but in mufti
He was a different kind of Policeman that seemed to be getting the best from the force
International trainings and postings hanging on his wall showing a glorious career
We hit it off and a friendship developed.
He became my egbon and me his aburo. I would be visiting him in Abeokuta and even bought Land beside his house to build my own house
We were very tight. His children loved me and my children loved him
Then I was arrested by the EFCC and he was the first person I called
He stormed the place and instructed them to release him
Those ones laughed and walked him out. He kept ranting and shouting that he will deal with them
At some point, it dawned on me that he was worsening my case and I told him as much
I said, Segun this ur shout will make dem jail me and he said he dares them.
At some point he stormed off in mock anger and didnt come back till monday after I had spent the whole weekend in jail
On Monday, we had the all party meeting. We had helped a client raise funds that he was defrauded off
It was N150m and he needed it as counterpart funding for a FG intervention institution
The client lost all the money and could not pay our client back who now went to EFCC to report Obtaining by fraud
At the meeting, it was clear that this was a transaction gone bad and not a criminal matter as we showed all documents and we agreed to a payment plan
Segun now takes me aside and says – we need to give them N1m if not they will take u back to the cell
Out of fear, I gave him the cash and everytime we went to sign, he would say – send N500k let me wet the ground
One day one of the IPOs who had now become friends casually asked what exactly Segun was doing for us that he was always asking them to threaten us with further detention and he would say no since it was now established that there was no criminal case
Then I mentioned that aghhh we were always giving him money to ‘wet the ground’ and that one screamed that there was no need o since there was no case
It dawned on me that my egbon was taking advantage of the situation to steal from me
When I found out, I was ashamed of him cos we were like blood and my mother was in love with him.
So I decided to ease him off without letting him know what i knew
Two years after, Mena called me and I said I was with Segun and she said this your Segun and I said he was my man and she said, you dont have a friend
I said what do you mean by that and she said come home
I went and was confronted by chats and evidence of Seguns massive betrayal
So that friday of my arrest, remember I mentioned that he stormed off
That storming off was straight to my house to go and tell my wife that I was in detention and that she would have to sleep with him so he can secure my release.
She told him that she was not my only wife that she should go and try the others.
Throughout the weekend, he kept pestering her with phone calls and chats reminding her that I had so many girlfriends and that I was not worth being that loyal to
She finally threatened to tell me and he stopped.
What he didn’t knw was that Mena being a major staff of Habib Bank had worked the phones and had secured my release late friday but since it was late, I had to stay till Monday.
She didn’t tell him but allowed him fool himself as best as he could all that weekend begging for sex from his aburos wife
I was shocked to say the least, thanked her and walked away.
Four years later she passed and the imbecile called me
Why didn’t you tell me that Mena died he roared
I said, listen to me Segun, if you ever call this line again, I will get you arrested for all the money you stole from me and trying to rape my wife.
He responded in the usual Police gra gra, I will sue you for defamation he roared
I said to him calmly – Segun the Edgar that was arrested that year is not the Edgar of today. With one phone call, I will mess you up with the evidence of your attrocities, so pls I beg you do not ever reach me or my family again cos u are dead to me
He hung up and i blocked him.
A few years later his son called that he had a stroke and wanted to see me
I said, Ill come for his burial, till then, nobody should call me as he remains dead to me.
