By this time, everyone knows that my favourite child is Chantal
She is my twinny; she talks like me, walks like me, genuflects like me, just a female and younger version of me
We have the same birthday – 4th July and have the same emotional comportment
We are both bold, abrasive and extremely intelligent
We are, however, both sensitive, cry easily and emotionally fragile
We fight a lot but settle very quickly, and we hug each other a lot, and there is no awkwardness in our relationship
The only thing I don’t like about our relationship is the fact that she thinks I am vulnerable and can’t fight
On the train, the streets, she will go out there and be protecting me and be saying – he is old, don’t hurt him
Me, Shomolu brought up against her, an aje butter that has not seen suffering in her life
Anyways, people scream, you are not allowed to have a favourite, and I say NO, I have
What people don’t know and what my other children know very well is that this Chantals favouritism comes only in play
She is my favourite cos she alone has my eccentricissm. She is the only one that connects to my rebellion, my out-of-the-box outlook to life, hence the bond
I love my other children equally, and they are very comfortable with my twinny with Chantal and don’t envy her at all
As Zara, my last child, would say – I don’t need all that your wahala, carry and go
Zara stays most times indoors, a loner and very introverted except with her friends
She hardly allows you to come into her intimate circle. Same with Annette, Alvin, and Joseph
The rest are somewhat introverted and introspective in outlook
They are relatively quiet loners whose prayer in life is to be left alone
They have their own eccentric outlook but indulge very privately
For example, Annette is a beautiful dancer but would not dance in public to save her life
Only two people in this world have ever seen Annette dance. Even me, her papa, it’s only once I’ve seen her dance, and when I hug her, she is quick with the hug and moves on
Alvin is another introspective person. Quiet and hardly talks, loves his space and has the kind of relationship I had with my dad in my teens with me – off hands
I remember when I asked him to get a tattoo, he almost fainted. He has only just started to braid his hair but will not flaunt it
His fashion style is more nerdy and off preppy, but not for him the bold Gothic madness that is Chantal and me
Joseph, my first son and heir, is quietly independent. He is the king of eccentricity but adorns it with the magic of silence
Hardly talks, a gifted artist with the looks of Adonis, which has landed him many modelling gigs in top fashion magazines like Esquire
When I call him on the phone, the talk is painfully slow, and he can’t wait to leave the call, exactly like my father with me
But that doesn’t mean he loves me any less, cos I hear him on the phone with Zara at times asking if Im Ok or if I have been given my BP tea
My other children do not envy Chantal, as they know they are covered even more than she is, and used to just stay clear of us, knowing full well that any minute now the usual fight will erupt.
Chantal and I have had the worst fights ever. We have stayed in malice for Months; she has made me cry, and I have made her cry, and the shouting matches are usually of Olympic proportions, and my other children just stay clear cos they know better not to intervene
My other kids love our serene relationship; they love the distance, knowing full well that Joe is just crazy and Chantal is crazier, and that’s why they hang out and not because he loves them any less
Chantal and I have been shouting for a joint tattoo. Annette, hmmmm, recently just mentioned it, but I doubt she will ever get one; Alvin hates it to a T, and Joseph is indifferent
But Chantal? She already had one on her buttocks but wanted a joint one with me, and we went and got it, and she called it – My star
So we both now have stars on our hands as a symbol of our crazy, mad, stupid bond
Na Play bring us together nothing else
Kai. Come and beat me.
