- First, good conversation overall
- The other panelist was too long-winded and not oratorically coherent.
- The Arise co-host could have done a better job guiding the conversation and interjecting where necessary. She did not.
- You made compelling points but as a comms and public speaking professional, my advise to you, moving forward, is as follows –
● Avoid cliches that are absolutely unnecessary. They make it sound as if you are not sure of what you are communicating. You have several variations that subconsciously get in the way and which in this instance, you repeated dozens of times. Literally.
They include –
….”Are you getting me now?
… “Do you get me now?”
These are unnecessary and redundant space fillers. Make your point and move on. Don’t ask if the speaker gets you.
● Slow down. It is not a sprint. Speak on average at 120 words per minute not 160. It helps make you more authoritative.
● Be careful with analogies and ensure they align factually and historically with your points. The comparison of Obi's wife with Imelda Marcos was faulty, off point, and below the belt. In public debates when you make such a faux pas, it idiminishes the strength of your debate. Other than that, you marshaled much better points than your co-panelist.
Just my penny’s worth and contribution as I believe you have the potential to do and be much better.
