I have been inundated by Nigerians with the clip of Mr Gbaja narrating how he almost lost his job last year because of little Desmond Elliott
People have been sending me the clip the way bags of rice are being distributed in a campaign session because of my stance on the ongoing ‘fight’ in Surulere which sees Mr Elliott pitted against the structure that ‘made’ him
For those of us who have not heard, Mr Elliott is going against the grain by insisting on fair play, by asking for internal democracy and this seems to have piqued a whole lot of people including the great Chief of Staff and former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and world record holder of many multiple terms at the House of Representatives
So he adorned his beautiful Ankara, stroked his grey beard and called a full council meeting where he is reported to have told us a story we didn’t need to hear
Ohhh Mr President called – is that not that Boy Elliott? He is causing trouble
Ohhh DSS called, is that not your boy?
I called him and to date, he has not reneged..
My people this talk shows how worried he is about what is happening in Surulere
This is a last-minute attempt at slam dunking this little boy who seems to have looked very squarely at the face of a bully and said – Let the people decide
Calling in Mr President who is busy in Kenya looking for how to help us find food to a very small matter of the Surulere constituency tells a lot
Mr President is a very busy man o. He rushed to France the other day for very serious affairs, from there he rushed to Kenya and then I hear he may be touching base in Rwanda before he now comes back to confront insecurity and the many things that make him our Commander in Chief
It is that very busy man that Mr Gbaja has gone to invoke his name into a matter that he should be able to very easily solve as the man who owns Surulere na
He did not only stop there as has been reported, but he was said to have also invoked the name of DSS in the matter
Mentioning DSS is a calculated attempt at intimidating his little opponent by saying-look, I have access and they talk to me
My people, the luck that Mr Gbaja has is that Nigerians don’t think cos if they could they would not be sending me the clip and gleefully saying that Aghh Edgar, Desmond is in trouble, aghh Edgar Desmond is ungrateful, aghh Edgar shebi it is these people that made him…
See, the true translation of that meltdown that we saw last night is DESPARATION.
This boy has not given up, this boy is still waxing stronger, our candidate is not making way, let me jump in with all my weight and slam dunk this thing once and for all.
If he was making headway, he would not need to invoke Mr President’s name in this struggle.
As the owner of Surulere, he would quell the insurrection with a raised pinky finger but that seems not to be the case, so the President’s name must be invoked
It is a kind of cowardice doing this and if eventually Desmond scales through at the primaries what would that have done to the image of the President who has been unknowingly dragged into a matter that really does not concern him
People ask, why are you supporting this Desmond, after all, he too was imposed and let him go he has stayed 12 years, let others too do it
And I remind them of the USSR
This country was a huge country led by Communists since the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.
Democracy the way we know it was alien to them but they had some level of internal democracy which they practised
Fast forward to the 80s and their style of democracy threw up Goberchev who was now imposed on the people the way Elliott was ‘imposed’ on Surulere people.
He didn’t do what they sent him ooo as he’ ended the impunity and instituted reforms that scattered the country and gave them some air to breathe
He broke the country into 16 republics and left Russia standing alone
So Desmond can be a child of imposition like you all are claiming and come back to fight for true democracy which he is asking for
Let the party members decide through primaries, simple
We cannot just take instructions from wherever that we should step down and allow a new ‘imposeeee’ to enter just like that and if we do, then we are biting the finger that fed us?
For me, we as a people must begin to make these demands for a true people’s voice and it is at this level which is almost grassroots that the clamour should be loud and clear
I agree, Desmond has over stayed, his backers no longer want him, what exactly has he done for surulere, he planned a coup against Obasa, he is so terrible, oya na, let the party humiliate him at the primaries na
What is so difficult about that? Let the party members disgrace him at the internal polls and I’ll take Desmond to a beer parlour and buy him fish pepper soup, and plan how we will go and beg Gbaja
The impunity to just wear Ankara and carry grey beards and just take a decision just like that on behalf of millions is what I am against
This is the folly of our democracy as we see it nationwide and it is the malaise that dogs us as a people
Like I told one Surulere boy yesterday, you can’t be demanding fair play at the National level and when it comes to your Surulere you bow to the same impunity
Let party members decide Desmond’s fate, that can’t be too difficult to ask?
With all the weight against Desmond there is no need to add the President’s name o or am I missing something?
Someone should come and beat me o
