The only reason why I would support Funsho Doherty

Like I have said in my previous write-ups, my support just as the support of all 24m Lagosians does not really matter in the grand scheme of things anymore

If you ask why, then you are living in a rock. What we are practising in Nigeria, especially in Lagos State is no longer democracy but a mixture of geriatocracy, monarchy, mild dictatorship and Babalaoism

All of these get mixed into a very bitter smoky drink that we are all forced to take

However, like the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah, where there was one good man, there are a few good men in this system and because of these men, some of us still show interest in the whole drama

Akinwunmi Ambode is one of those men. Principled, focused and an architect of developmental growth

His four years pushed Lagos in a direction that we had not seen since the legendary Jakande era

He transformed Lagos into a massive construction site and possessed a visionary mindset pushing modernisation of waste collection, revenue collection, and transparency in government funding. He also built the structures that the world regarded as detty December now sits amongst others

His loyalty to the party was tested to the limit and he stood – not throwing the party into a quandary at his removal and just laying low and biding his time for his comeback

Ambode understands Lagos and remains the best candidate by far amongst all contestants

He fits all of the boxes, his Christianity will fit into the 16year Tinubu/Fashola run, his understanding of the complex developmental issues and his pragmatic approach towards governance is what Lagos needs at this time

For me, Ambode is that one man in Sodom and Gomorrah that we need to delay the eventual collapse of the structural perfidy that has ruled Lagos since this republic

It is for Ambode that I hold down my full support for Funsho Doherty, whom I have been very critical of in the past

Things have changed now, the state is in dire need of purposeful leadership, and transparency in governance is very critical as resources now need to be channelled towards the suffocating masses whose developmental indices are facing a robust decline

Health, housing, sanitation and credible investments that would create more jobs and push better living conditions are much needed

My issue with Funsho is his relative inexperience in the Octoposie that is the civil service in Alausa

His very good intentions would be stymied if he doesn’t first handle the complexity of a civil service though not happy but remain rabidly loyal to a system that has disenfranchised them forever

Funsho”s tenure would be spent trying to uproot a system that has an amoebic hold on Lagos at all levels from the Motor Parks, to the many palaces and up to the seat of Government.

He would just be a sitting duck if elected and a candidate for early impeachment

But in the absence of Ambode, Lagosians especially the true indigenes who have not seen leadership come to them for decades must throw their weight behind Funsho

The movement must be revved to not only throw their support for his election but also support his government

It must leverage the growing discontent in the system, recruit underground operatives who will play both sides but in his favour, take advantage of the NURTW faction and get one on his side and be ready to play dirty politics in an end justifies the means kinda push

So let’s wait for Ambode, then we know how to move

Till then, I say brother Funsho keep oiling your machinery, we just might need u

Come and beat me
