My Gothic experience

If you have been watching closely, you would notice that my style oscillates between three tendencies

Nerdy preppy, weird, and Gothic

The nerdy preppy is when I come up with those buttoned-down polo shirts, with Tommy Chinos and straight jeans with sneakers

The weird ensemble is those times when I come out in skirts, wrappers, shredded jeans, baggy jeans and huge tops

But the Gothic is closer to the alte movement which i so much like , which sees me in dark, devilish clothes, emblazoned with skulls, rings, piercings, and satanic symbolism

If you ask me which is my favourite, I would say it’s the Gothic

Cos it allows me to destroy the boundaries, push my mischievous part and truly put a finger in society’s buthole

In the grand Gothic scheme of things, I am a moderate and have not even started

I have only one piercing, 8 tattoos, dreadlocks that lean more towards the Rastafarian ideology rather than the movement championed by such gods like Adam Ant and crazy talentless Area Fada

Today, while touring East London with Chantal, I stumbled on a Shrine

It was a Gothic Shrine where the great Ozy Osborne used to get his accessories

I saw different kinds of metals all made in the drudgery of the dark world

The boy who attended to me was in his full gothic ensemble, complete with nose rings, wonderful piercings and a body covered in full tattoos

He took me to a cabinet where he showed me metals customised for Ozy Osborne – remember he used to chop off the head of live bats on stage with his mouth

I was shown the last ring he wore at his last concert bf he passed, and they were all in different skull motifs

I have like 6 skull rings, three skull pendants hanging from sterling silver long chains – we hardly wear gold and a lot of other such rings with crosses and such symbolism of the dark world

My ring collection is like 12 of the most pristine dark ensembles, and I wear them according to my mood

I have over 50 gothic T-shirts, all black, with giant skulls. I even have two with beaded skulls made up of shiny stones

Today, my eyes were opened cos I stumbled into the mecca

The underground hard rock clubs where sounds were coming from, the fashion, the culture, and the last vestiges of the dead punk era, which has decidedly morphed into what we are seeing today as Gothic.

As I made my pick of clothing, mentally calculating the Naira equivalent and shaking my head, I was busy thanking God that I stumbled on this mecca

Going back at midnight when the enclave would be in full swing to get another tattoo and get some more earrings and rings too

I might just colour my hair, you never can tell cos the excitement of this world is turning my head o

I just might even split my tongue, which is another high symbolism of the culture

The push led me walking bare-chested with no clothes on the streets of London in careless abandon, daring anyone to touch

I’ve found home, come and beat me

Thanks
