Let me send my heartfelt congratulations to Mr Emmanuel Nnorom for his recent elevation as Chairman of one of Nigeria’s most influential Financial institutions – UBA
I first met Mr Nnorom at the Standard Trust Bank as a rookie Stockbroker and have continued to admire from afar his methodological attention to detail, his capacity for brilliance and most especially his corporate loyalty
Mr Nnorom, to the best of my knowledge, has stayed within the STB/UBA/Heirs family for upwards of two decades, and this is quite remarkable if you consider the high mobility rate in the industry
This has given him the necessary depth, allowed him to imbibe the cascading vision and given him, amongst others, the clarity he would need to sustain the fast-moving pace of his predecessor, Mr Tony Elumelu
I remember sometime ago when I had a little fracas with a junior MD in the group, in anger and in a rare show of a lack of emotional intelligence, I shouted to the young MD – im swating u with a sledgehammer
I made a beeline for Mr Nnorom, and he strategically detonated me and put extremely brilliant Leo Okafor on the matter and kept in touch with the process until – I carried my wahala and went
What stands very well for the Group is its seamless continuity in leadership and in vision, as the seamless transfer of power from Mr Elumelu at the abrupt implementation of Tenor Limit by the then Sanusi-led CBN remains epochal and an industry yardstick
The Group with this transition further strengthens its corporate reputation as one steeped in global standard corporate governance with a robust succession planning moulded in it, which in turn ensures continued growth at full steam
Let me also send my greetings to Mr Elumelu, who continues to lift the bar and who remains a shining beacon in these days of listless corporate hopelessness.
While wishing Mr Nnorom a successful tenure, let me state very categorically that the Institution is truly in great hands
