My Editor thinks I am taking sides but I have woken up at 4am for the last few days to listen to the horror that is the Okoye Family
Its now on series 8 and Jude has responded to his brother, Peter and Judes wife has also responded and the public has both sides
Public opinion is now firmly on Peter’s side and this is also where I stand
Peter has not only brought out horror stories but also tendered facts and data
He has shown us Bank statements where Jude allegedly pilfered huge sums of money, he has showed hard evidence where Jude threatened to kill him severely, he has shown where Jude refused to build Peter’s house and all sort
Part 8 of the video made me and the rest of Nigeria cry
This was where they tried to make Peter doubt Lola’s pregnancy and sent an email to him alleging that the pregnancy was not his and where that failed, they started calling the son a Bastard.
Mbok this thing is sibling war at a whole different spectrum
Maybe cause of Internet today, we didnt see all the drama in the Bobby Benson family which led to them losing the iconic Bobby Benson Hotel at Onipanu in Lagos.
The Rotimi Williams family war was another one where people would say – ohh we understand Bobby Benson own cause they came from different mothers but the Williams are from one mother
Anothe iconic siblings war is the Abiola’s.
MKO Abiola I mean, which also resonated amongst Nigerians and which is still smouldering.
Even that didnt come to us in our homes like the Okoyes
The Okoye own is hitting us right in the face and in living colour putting a lie to the saying Blood is thicker than water
To the Okoye’s they have long diluted the blood with bile and hatred, they now would rather kill themselves than look at each other as people who came out of the same womb.
When I was growing up in Shomolu and this is what I told my Editor in our discussion, the Ibibio community in answer to their economic deprivation would blame it all on witchcraft
They would forget the fact that they were not really educated and their outlook to life at that time was subservience hence the National mockery of my people as ‘ekaette’ house boys and house girls and they would say it is witchcraft that kept them were they were
They would now be blaming their mothers who were always the prime suspect
In seeking solutions, they would take their mothers to all sort of prayer homes, subject her to all sort of humiliation all in a bid to break her or free themselves from her shackles
I used to say even at that young age – if my own Mother decided to hurt or arm me after bringing me to this world, her business. I will not and can never fight my mother, let her make me useless – her business
That is the strong tie I had with my family and the same thing I think we should all have
Another story – we all jointly contributed money as a family to build on land our parents had acquired in Uyo
When they bought the land it was in a non descript area but today, the place has turned to the Ikoyi of Uyo with top and prominent people including all our Governors owning mansions there
Our little homestead is now worth hundreds of millions
But when my mum passed, she willed it on a piece of paper to my sister, mayen and I think one of my other sibling.
This is prime property worth over N500m and I dey Lagos dey pay rent ooo
My sister showed me the paper, it was rough and in my mothers handwriting and I smiled and congratulated them and moved on
Till today, none of us have asked for that house, my sister is no longer Edgar but Etim, nobody is concerned with the property, we all are very happy that both of them out of five got it and we still even contribute money to maintain it
If it was the Okoyes now, that mansion in Uyo would have been burnt down, Nigerians would not hear word
Greed has no filial ties. Once you are greedy, you are greedy and it doesn’t matter if your blood siblings or parents are involved
I dont want to even bring the issue of ethnicity which could even have been the trigger with Peter marrying Lola a Yoruba girl. Lets even dont go there.
The whole thing is a sordid disgrace of a family which for all intent and purposes were iconic
But they now drag their shame just cos they could not briddle their greed
That Jude is a big shame and a useless oaf who being talentless has led this family into national disgrace.
He is a fool.
