Let me quickly send my message to the 33rd NBA President, the brilliant Oyinkosola Badejo-Okusanya, who happens to be the wife of my egbon, the PR guru, Yomi, and sister to my sister, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, as she wakes up this morning to her mandate.
The NBA is worse than a caricature of its former self, with a total loss in public confidence, members who are anything but, and a national weight, lighter than a failed comedian
Baring the spark during my brother Olu Akpata’s tenure, the Association has been nothing but a seemingly irrelevant distraction from our continuous national malaise
Annually, it regales us with a National Convention, which is nothing but a pantomime that pulls in jerks like Portable and its members are left to scrabble for gifts and indulge in petty thievery to our collective annoyance.
The NBA of today is very far from the NBA of the Aka Basoruns who led the fight for the protection of civil and human rights and became the bastion of hope for the poor man during the worst ever draconian rule in our history since the Civil War
Today, in a civilian era, we are faced with a castrated NBA, a toothless organisation that has left its core task to Sowore, Randy Peters and a motley crew of human rights fighters while its members are being asked to kneel and raise their hands in open court
My sister, the task ahead of you is well defined, you must bring back responsible professionalism to your members, fight judicial rascality and rebuild the NBA as a bastion for the fight for credible governance at all levels
I refuse to be carried away by all the empty hype about you being the first or second woman to head the association; what you will make of the office should be uppermost in your mind.
I really do wish you well and sincerely do pray for you as you commence this very difficult task of rejuvenating an association that is literally dead by all intents and purposes.
You may come and beat me
Thanks
Duke of Shomolu
