Tosin Olukuade – Son of his father and my father

Tosin is my brother. He is from Ekiti, and he told me he wrote a book about his father.

He sends me a copy of the book, and I throw it on the back seat of my car, like I keep most books that I get sent

The title of the book this time catches my attention cos he wrote about his father, which is a rarity in our female-dominated world

You know every weekend is Mothers day and people like mumus will be sending all sorts of adulations and praises on the mothers as if they produced the sperm that gave life

When Father’s Day comes, it just slides past like the day Dimka was killed – dour and lifeless

So when I saw Tosin on the cover with his father, the famous Reverend, I made it a point of duty to read it

So this morning, coming from the Passport office, my phone died, and out of boredom, I carried the Ekiti man book

Tosin, being a branding man, put all of his talent into the beautification of the book

So what you miss with the little size you enjoy with its neatness and beauty

Tosin’s father was a clergyman for 30 years and was initially a teacher

Old school teacher with very strong old values that he imbued in his son, who is one of my closest friends, that have nver told a lie

I read only half of the Book and may not complete it, but the little I read he made his point

Fathers are a pillar, especially a praying one like Tolu’s

Tolu’s genuine love for his father was more than reciprocated, especially with his pride at his son writing a book for him

Tolu tells us that his father told almost everyone, including Gov Fayose, about the project, which made a lot of his father’s friends green with envy and regret not paying their children’s school fees, thereby losing this kind of opportunity

The major issue I have with the Book is Tolu spoiling it by saying it came as a divine revelation that he should write a brace of four books, with one being ‘Son of My Mother’

To me, this now made his father’s own look compensatory since his mother’s own came first

The whole thing just scattered for my head, and I no come like the book again

I threw it back to the back seat and walked up to my office

What is it about mothers? What do they put in the breast milk that has turned humanity into zombies

Then I got upstairs, calmed down and said to myself – at least Tolu write book about him papa, me wey I dey vex what did I do for my papa

Me sef, I’m a culprit, burying my dad in a small grave and building a huge Mausoleum for my mum, which is now drawing villagers to the place to take pictures with their lovers

As a Reverend Father pikin, Tolu spliced the book with bible verses, which I was afraid to read for fear of a conversion, but which must have given the book a smooth, illustrative flow

The language was smooth and easy, no preconceptions towards a Soyinka type of shakara, as he didn’t use big grammar but simple language that helped the reader understand what he was trying to say

I recommend the book to everyone to read and see how a good son eulogised and immortalised a good father

He has not told me where to get the book, but if you want mine, I can sell it to you, just don’t tell him

Can I send my account no?
