I didn’t know this Otunba didn’t like me o. I always used to think that he was an egbon who had my back
Little did I know that I was mistaken until one day
I can’t even remember how I met him, but my earliest recollection of him was when I walked up to him to introduce myself
I should have known o. The way he looked at me and said Which Edgar is your own
I carried along thinking that I had finally found a mentor, then he showed me his true colours
I had asked, Otunba, I am doing a play on Awo and would need your support, being that you are the Chairman of Odua Group, a Conglomerate that has a rich affinity with Chief Awolowo
He hissed and walked away, and I wondered – aghh, what did I say wrong
The next day I got a call from Odua…
As if I was not learning from my mistakes, I went again – Otunba, I want to take Awo to London, and he looked me up and down again and said – Segun is my friend, Segun being Segun Awolowo – and I am godfather to his children
Otunba gave me that thing Tinubu used to yab Buhari – Mo lu le
Then, as thick-headed as I am, I still went back again, made him come and speak at my event, made him Chairman of my advisory board and also made him chief host of my Masterclass, all without leaning towards experience
Otunba has really dealt with me in this life, or how would you describe a man who got all 15 companies within the Odua group to support not only Awo but the Ekiti Festival.
This Enemy didn’t stop at that, he flew into London to give one of the most brilliant speeches I’ve heard, in my Investment summit, got Channels TV to cover the play and still gave me personal money
Otunba showed his full hatred for me just this last week when, in 10 minutes, he sat in his expansive living room in his Otunba Ashiru close residence in Ikoyi and raised close to N50m for my play in London
A perfect enemy ooo, who would say – Edgar, they are not picking your calls abi, don’t worry, leave it to me
And he would call the very reluctant big Yoruba chiefs and say – aghh, ehhh mo Edgar ni, that crazy boy that is doing play on Obey, I am involved o, pls let him call you
This kind of enemy is the one we all need to have – a perfect enemy.
One who will not wish you well but will take the phone and make things happen for you, all with a frown
Everyone should get an enemy like Otunba Bimbo Ashiru; it’s the way to go
Come and beat me
Duke of Shomolu
